Storing Your Hunting Gear for the Winter

We are happy to announce the end of another hunting season. We want to thank all our hunters for an amazing year of antelope, mule deer, and elk hunting. We were busy organizing gear and closing our camps for winter so we thought we would share some tips to help your gear last longer and stay in better shape.

There is a good chance your hunting season is over and your gear will be covered in dirt, dust, or mud. These elements can be very corrosive so it is crucial to care for your gear after each season. You should inspect them before storing them for winter. Shop here the best Sdb xena Air rifle.

Make sure your gear is clean. You can clean your rangefinder and binocular lenses by wiping them with a lens cloth. Then, wipe any outside surfaces with a paper towel or damp cloth. You can use compressed air to blow out dust and sand from the focus rings, and other moving parts.

The same procedure should be followed for other hunting gear such as calling sticks, game carriers, shooting sticks, and so forth. Wipe them with a damp cloth and dry them completely before you store them.

Cleaning your weapon is a must. After a season of abuse, don't forget about cleaning your weapon.

Don't forget about outerwear and clothing. It may take more than just putting it in the washer. Special care is required for materials like Gore-Tex or other types of rain gear.

Wash them with a Gore-Tex-safe detergent, then spray a Durable Water Repellent(DWR) on the surface. The factory usually applies a DWR coating to waterproof and water-resistant items. It's a good idea to apply a new DWR coating after each season. This helps prevent precipitation from forming and allows the garment to be rolled easily.

DWR treatments can be purchased at most sporting goods stores and are available from a variety of companies. Some are specifically made for rainwear such as Gore-Tex while others are for soft-shell wear. You should ensure that you select the right product for your clothing.

Make sure you take care of your hunting boots. Use a safe boot cleaner that is specifically designed for your boots.

It is important to clean and treat leather boots every season. If boots are not cleaned and treated properly, they can crack or dry out. This can reduce the boot's life expectancy and decrease their ability to perform in the field.
